| Eight Gates Music
was founded by C. Douglas McFadyen as a vehicle for promoting his
interest in the connection between music and spiritual experience.
Deeply moved after first hearing a concert by K.
Sridhar on the Sarod, Mr. McFadyen enthusiastically embraced
the introduction and promotion of this music to North American audiences.
K. Sridhar is a master of Nada Yoga, the Yoga of Sound, as well
as one of the world's foremost proponents of both North and South
Indian Classical Music.
Based on their mutual interest in the relationship between Sound
and states of consciousness, a true friendship developed. This interest
in Nada Yoga took on a more personal meaning for Mr. McFadyen when
he was faced with a diagnosis of cancer. His subsequent physical
struggle and spiritual growth gave birth to the idea of creating
recordings designed to enhance the practise of meditation, hatha
yoga, or healing therapy. In addition, the profit from these CD
sales would fund research into biological immunotherapy cancer treatment.
Since his passing, two memorial CDs have been produced.
Under the direction of Barbara McFadyen, the work of promoting
Nada Yoga has continued. Eight Gates Music continues to sponsor
concerts and seminars that provide inspiration for many people.
The distribution and sales of Ocean of Sound
and Ocean of Sound: Vol. 2 have steadily
increased. Thus the funding of the C. Douglas McFadyen Memorial
Fund for cancer research has begun. Soon we hope to obtain official
non-profit status. In this way, Eight Gates Music continues its
dedication to the preservation and propagation of this divine art
which serves to heal body, mind, and soul.
